  • Plan Melbourne - the Plan Melbourne strategy will guide the growth of our city for the next 35 years. It sets the strategy for supporting jobs, housing and transport to ensure Melbourne grows more sustainable, productive and liveable.
  • New apartment provisions - The Better Apartments Design Standards have been introduced to improve the liveability and sustainability of apartments across Victoria. The new standards provide clear rules for apartment liveability while allowing for innovation and design excellence.
  • New residential zones - Reformed residential zones were introduced to the Victoria Planning Provisions and all planning schemes on 27 March 2017. The reformed residential zones. The changes will provide a fairer approach to managing residential development across Victoria's suburbs, towns and cities.
  • VicSmart extension - a number of new classes of application has been added to the simple 10 day VicSmart planning permit process that will increase the number, around 30 per cent, of permits being fast tracked.
  • Infrastructure contributions - A new system for Infrastructure Contributions Plans took effect on 27 October 2016. The new system is based on standard levies that are pre-set for particular development settings and land uses, in order to fund the provision of essential infrastructure that will support new or growing communities.
