Cumberland Plain Conservation Plan - Exhibition of draft Terms of Reference

Developing a Strategic Conservation Plan for Western Sydney

I am writing to let you know that the draft Terms of Reference that underpin the State and Federal Governments’ agreement to develop a strategic conservation plan for Western Sydney are now available on the Department’s website.

The Department of Planning and Environment is preparing the Cumberland Plain Conservation Plan. The Plan will help deliver the Greater Sydney Commission’s vision for a Western Parkland City, with important housing, infrastructure and economic development outcomes for Western Sydney, as well as help protect the area’s natural environment and important biodiversity assets.

The Plan is being prepared to meet legislative requirements for strategic biodiversity Certification under the NSW Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 and Commonwealth Environment Protection and strategic assessment under the Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act). An important step in this process is to publicly exhibit the draft Terms of Reference for the Strategic Assessment of the Cumberland Plain Conservation Plan, as required under Clause 146(1B)(b)(ii) of the EPBC Act.

You can make a submission online here, or make your submission by posting to:

The Executive Director, Biodiversity and Sustainability Branch
Department of Planning and Environment
GPO Box 39
Sydney NSW  2000

Comments on the draft Terms of Reference can be lodged until 25 January 2019.

If you require further information, please get in touch via biodiversity@planning.nsw.gov.au

Yours sincerely
