The Oration title is “Addressing Climate Injustice: Human Rights and Climate Change in the Courts”
Professor Jacqueline Peel, University of Melbourne, will deliver this prestigious Oration in 2016.
The Honourable Justice Rachel Pepper of the Land and Environment Court of New South Wales will chair the event.
The Mahla Pearlman Oration and Award honours the memory of the late Honourable Mahla Pearlman AO, the former Chief Judge of the Land and Environment Court of New South Wales (1992–2003), and former President of the Law Council of Australia (1989–90). The annual event is a tribute to Chief Judge Pearlman’s achievements and inspiration to younger generations of environmental lawyers.
The Legal Practice Section of the Law Council of Australia and the Environment and Planning Law Association (NSW) Inc co-host the commemorative Oration.
The Mahla Pearlman Australian Young Environmental Lawyer of the Year Award is presented at the Oration to a young lawyer who has made a significant contribution to environmental law.
